[*] BEERS: Thank you all for coming today to the launch event of the National Security Network. We have an, I think, interesting and full program for this morning.

We are also infinitely flexible. And so rather than having me start first, we're going to start with remarks by Congresswoman Harman, who I think needs no introduction, but let me do that anyway.

(LAUGHTER)

She is a member of Congress from California. She is the ranking member on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and a wonderful voice on national security and intelligence matters, both on Capitol Hill and in the public dialogue about those important issues.

I can't think of a member who is more representative of the kind of ideas and the ways of proceeding to talk about them than Congresswoman Harman.

So please join me in welcoming her to the National Security Network launch.

HARMAN: Thank you, Randy.

I am the warm-up act for Madeleine Albright and Les Gelb. And what makes me sad is that I can't stay here to hear them speak. The reason I can't is I have to go back to battle. We're in the last phase of the congressional wars -- mercifully -- for the 109th Congress.

I predict that this will go down to the wire Friday, and probably 3 a.m. Friday morning there will be the security bill -- where's Joe Annick (ph)? He's probably breaking out in hives -- the security bill, which will be put out there on a take-it-or-leave-it basis, will have a much watered down version...
