[*] NICHOLSON: Good morning, everyone.

I want to welcome all of you, and particularly you members of the media to this morning's announcement of a very significant -- indeed, a lifesaving program that we're initiating for America's veterans.

And I'm Jim Nicholson, as secretary of veterans affairs, and it's my pleasure to be here this morning with Michael Leavitt, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, and with Dr. Richard Carmona, the U.S. surgeon general, and my colleague at the V.A. and undersecretary for health affairs, Dr. Jonathan Perlin.

And we are here to share with the American public and America's veterans the partnership that has been forged between HHS and the V.A. under the rubric we are calling Healthier U.S. Veterans.

And it's our entry into America's fight against diabetes and obesity.
