GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT[*] DUJARRIC: Starting off with the situation on the ground in Lebanon, Major General Alain Pellegrini, who, as you know is the head of the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, met today with senior officers from the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). They discussed continued Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon and Lebanese Army deployment. The intention of the discussions is to complete this process as soon as possible."We had a constructive meeting today," General Pellegrini said afterwards.
