SPEAKER: U.S. REPRESENTATIVE RAHM EMANUEL (D-IL), CHAIRMAN, DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE

[*] EMANUEL: I want to do just a couple things and then we'll just get right to questions, just go over a couple points here. One, I want to just talk -- I mean, I know we talked a lot about the agenda yesterday and how we won. Some of us like to joke around upstairs, Democrats haven't been this happy since 2000 when CNN declared Florida for Al Gore, and that only lasted about an hour for us.

Let me talk a little about -- you know the agenda on the minimum wage, direct negotiations for lower prescription drug prices, a vote on the 9/11 Commission recommendations, an energy policy in which we take the $12.5 billion dollars given to big oil and move it toward research for energy independence and alternative energy and new sources, slashing interest rates on college loans in half, and then pay-as-you-go rules on the budget, and also on stem cell and getting a vote on that, and then also on Social Security.

And candidates across this country ran on that agenda. And people across the country, both Democrats, independents and change- orientated Republicans, voted in favor of it in what is now 27 and yet some districts and some still undecided and to be counted and completed. People voted for that type of change.
